Back in March, Google had pledged to give millions of dollars to support SMBs in light of the Coronavirus pandemic.
Now Google has announced new details of eligibility in how it will support small and medium-sized businesses amidst the COVID-19 crisis via Google Ads credits.
Google is doing this to help SMBs stay in touch with customers, and it is providing $340 million in ad credits which can be used towards future ad spend until the end of 2020.
Google is doing much more to support SMBs, as noted here:
In addition to providing $340 million in ad credits, we’ve also set up a fund that will support NGOs and financial institutions around the world to help provide small businesses with access to capital. This is in addition to the $15 million in cash grants Google.org is already providing to nonprofits to help bridge these gaps for SMBs. We’re also providing $20 million in ad grants to community financial institutions specifically to run public service announcements on relief funds and other resources for SMBs.

Is my business eligible?
In order to be eligible, your Google Ad account needs to have been active since the beginning of 2019 and have adhered to Google’s policies. In order to be eligible, you also need to have spent money on ads in 10 of 12 months throughout 2019, along with January or February 2020.
Google is going this route in order to reward SMBs which have been consistent advertisers on the platform.
Google is determining if you are an SMB based on:
We have a global team that is specifically designed to consult with and support the needs of small and medium sized businesses around the world, and the ad credits will be supporting those businesses. We work with SMBs worldwide from local stores to companies with hundreds of employees and many locations.
COVID-19: Ad credits for Google Ads Small and Medium-sized Businesses
When are the credits rolling out?
Credits will roll out in phases, starting in late May 2020. If you are eligible, you will receive one ad credit allocation.
How much credit will I receive?
This ad credit allocation will be dependant on previous spend and will be in proportion to how much you have previously spent on Google Ads. So those who have spent more will likely receive larger-sized ad credits.
Advertisers will receive a notification and credits will appear in the corresponding accounts automatically.
These credits can be across Google Ads channels, whether that’s on Search, Display, YouTube or otherwise.
